You master jobs by equipping job-specific items and winning battles with them. Also, you must have enough JP to buy a skill. Since the very first game, different jobs have been central to the gameplay in any RPG. Not only can the Iaido abilities deal damage to foes, they can also recover allies' HP or bestow various status enhancements, and differentiate friend and foe like summon abilities.
